If you’ve used any chemicals or any type of varnish, clean and let dry. For me, I want to feel like I’ve walked into my own “secret garden” and have a sense of calm. A friend of mine built a chicken house for his wife; their young son tends it.
Exclusively growing your plants in pots is an increasing and useful trend nowadays. This type is essentially known as container gardening. Homeowners who don’t possess the luxury of having front and back lawns in their residence or anyone who is living in tall buildings will be afforded the opportunity to grow their favorite flowers and various plant choices through this method.
If you are thinking decorative you can use wood (a plastic liner is highly recommended), ceramic (can be beautiful but is fragile), terra cotta (they are porous and dry out quickly so you will need to water frequently) or standard clay pots (but be careful of staining on surfaces).
My mother’s birthday was recently, so I got the ball rolling by sending her some books on gardenersadvice.info (time to downsize the garden a bit Ma!) and small tree and shrub gardening. I will help with the Mother’s Day gift by sending my mother a wallet with a small amount of money to put toward her mulch. However, I don’t want to do too much as this really is a gift from my sister, and I don’t want to ruin that for her.
If your compost is in a large bin, you likely have a door at the bottom somewhere or an access point. If you have a wheelbarrow, it is a good plan to add a screen over the top and start to shovel your compost over the screen. This will eliminate any materials that are not fully composted or are too bulky. You can return those materials to the bin for further processing.
You can experiment along with the innovative containers. Try out something really new with tiles or timber or you can also use your copper urn or old porcelain bowl. Although, if you want to buy ready-made containers then terracotta pots are beautiful, only that it can absorb water. It is obvious that you might not want that your plants get dry so you can paint the inner part of the pots with some special sealer, which you will get in any hardware shops.
Try to come up with a mix that will be pleasing to the eye. Choose one large plant with some height to it that will be your centerpiece and then fill in around it. Don’t just mix flower colors together, experiment with different textures of foliage. Having a plant that hangs over the side of the pot is always one of my favorite features.
