Sometimes our passionate moments are so intense that you can see it coming out from your skin – literally! A hickey, also called a love bite or a kiss mark, is a bruise caused by suction, occurring because of broken capillaries under the skin. The negative pressure caused by suction will break the veins and the blood will leak out, becoming visible under the skin as a bruise.
As it is not something that we want people to see, we should act fast and get rid of the hickey as soon as possible. You can get a hickey anywhere, but the most common area is the neck. The hickey will also be more visible in the neck area, as the skin there is thin and sensitive. Hiding it with a scarf is an option, but we cannot actually wrap our neck in one in the middle of the summer. That is why we have some advices on how to get rid of a hickey in a short time.
The first thing to do after noticing the hickey is to apply ice on it. If you don’t have ice packs, put a tablespoon in the freezer for around two hours and then apply it on the affected area, massaging for 20 minutes. After using the ice or the cold spoon, apply some toothpaste on the hickey. Leave it on until the itching feeling caused by the toothpaste will disappear.
Remove it with a soft towel soaked in warm water. Repeat all the process each 12 hours, you will notice the hickey disappearing and remember: the treatment will be more effective if you use it immediately after getting the hickey.
Sometimes you can get a hickey on purpose and sometimes you can get it by chance because you just have a sensitive skin. Either way, it is not a thing to show off and be proud of – it just does not look good on one’s skin – so try your best to make it disappear using the advice above.
