Cyclical breast pain is common before your period begins and usually goes away after your period is over.
So what causes post period breast soreness?
Breast are very sensitive to hormonal changes going on in the body because they consist of hormone receptors. These hormonal receptors makes the breast very responsive to hormonal fluctuations in the body.
Breast changes coincide with a woman’s menstrual cycle.
As the estrogen and progesterone hormone, prepares the body for ovulation and pregnancy each month, the breast is also preparing itself for ovulation and pregnancy.
During the first half of the menstrual cycle, the estrogen hormone is produced by the ovaries. The estrogen hormone is responsible for fuller breast and tender breast before ovulation. This hormone continues to rise until ovulation. After ovulation has occurred the progesterone hormone takes over the second half of the menstrual cycle.
The progesterone hormone further provides blood flow to the breast which may cause heaviness or soreness.
