Alignment/inversions Five years ago

Alignment/inversions 🤸🏻🤸🏻 Five years ago I was terrified to even go up into a headstand although I could manage a tentative tripod headstand in the middle of the room. There are days where things come easier and days where I struggle still with my alignment.
Bound headstand came first. And practicing that allowed me to develop the shoulder girdle strength to work on forearm stand, but handstand came in/between those two. .
.
It’s only in the last two years that I’ve been comfortable and stable in #pincha. Proprioception, or being aware of where your body is in space, is harder upside down, and really the only key is practice and more practice. .
.
If you begin to find that plumbline and stacking of bones, you are able to feel more secure upside down which helps get rid of the fear of falling once you’re up there. Core strength is an often overlooked component of inversions but it is key to both finding alignment and keeping it. Shoulder girdle strength and being able to control the action of the scapula is very important upside down. And in handstands wrist and forearm strength and mobility are also key.
Most of us begin to invert in a banana shape, especially if we are using the wall, which is normal and there’s nothing wrong with it.
Wherever you start is fine, and just becoming comfortable and learning to calm your nervous system so that you don’t have a flight or flight syndrome when you go upside down is important. Slowing down breathing and heart rate allow you to focus your mind and concentrate on your alignment. Everything must be engaged but there must be a softness in order to subtly adjust upside down. .

Sometimes I hate my Instagram because I don’t think it’s real. Ppl look at it and think everything is perfect. It’s not. Of course, that depends on how much I share of my life, and what I share. I feel like I share a lot, but I also choose to keep things personal because I have that right. I have shi* going on just like any other person out there. It might seem like I have my life together, that my problems are cut down to laundry & rehabbing a shoulder, that I’m doing cool things – and I AM, and I’m excited about them – but that’s also the illusion of social media- projections of the good moments into little pictures- unless we choose to share the crap, which we sometimes do.
.
I do it too, to other ppl I follow and admire. Assume. We look and want pieces of their life, the little square pieces we see, without seeing the whole picture that would show the dark corners, blurred lines, and mines they might be living their life tip-toeing around. .
.
Sometimes it’s impossible to think that a person could have anything wrong in their life. And maybe they don’t right now. But maybe they do. Or maybe you want to trade problems. I know you know who I’m talking about- there’s someone right now that you follow and feel like they have a perfect life. You know.
.
Life IS good. Life is good. Life is, GOOD. But it’s hard too. And hurts. And we just don’t know everything about anyone. So here’s to a moody Thursday night and a heavy caption, I’m sorry. But for all of us barely getting thru this year rn, I feel you…Saturn’s return anyone?

Drop me an 🖤 if you’re here.

Release what no longer serves me”…well, a lot of things probably don’t serve me but releasing them is easier said than done. So today, I offer an additional question for the journey of “releasing”. “What are the benefits of holding on?”.
.
.
Perfectionism (Hi, my name is Blair and I’m a perfectionist 🙋🏼‍♀️). In consideration of why I want to release perfectionism (bc it really does not serve me in the long run) I ask myself why it remains, what’s the benefit. “Well, I get more done, it motivates me, being anything less than means I’m not good”… Well then, of course, it’s hard to release perfectionism and of course, I would struggle to release that…IF THOSE REASONS WERE ENTIRELY TRUE. But they’re not! I’m just as motivated to do my best rather than be perfect, I can mess up 1000x and still be good, and I might not need to be getting as much done as I think!

Boom! It’s easier to release when we’ve done a little digging!
